20 exemption requests have been submitted under the RoHS Directive, mainly involving lead and cadmium, for Medical (category 8) and Monitoring Instruments (category 9).

Consultants Oko Institut seeks stakeholder views, until March, on 18 exemptions requested by COCIR (The European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical and Healthcare IT Industry) who speak for the medical equipment sector and the test and measurement association.

Exemptions submitted by COCIR are for technologies that will not be viable by 2014 or, if they are, the costs to healthcare would be prohibitive.

Categories 8 and 9 fall within scope of the RoHS Recast Directive 2011/65/EU during July 2014.
